Description
The US and EU supply base are concerned about global IP loss. While assets are at various degrees of risk in any region, the key to understanding realistic protection is to think "asset" instead of "country." Risk cannot be based on countries or "risky areas" but wherever a sufficiently valuable asset is accessible at any tier in any country - as the collector will move to the least defended point that contains the IP.

India is unique in terms of IP risk in comparison to other outsourcing and manufacturing regions. India faces indirect IP risks in terms of risks to personnel and facilities as well as direct risks to IP throughout its regional supply chain. Personnel and facility risk will rise over time despite prodigious efforts by the Indian security apparatus.

Risks can be addressed locally as relocating from India elsewhere in Asia merely exchanges direct attack risks to more intellectual property loss risks. Today's in-country risk is more from foreign collectors, local “entrepreneurial” commercial IP collection and careless outsourcing in the Indian supply chain – which includes outsourcing to China.
